Description
A VERY LARGE PAINTED WOOD FIGURE OF WATER MOON GUANYIN, MING / QING DYNASTY. The Bodhisattva seated in 'Royal ease' pose with the right leg raised, with the arm resting on top and the left leg relaxed hanging in front. Wearing flowing garments and shawl over the shoulders with beaded necklace, adorned with crown featuring a figure of Buddha surround by pieced scroll work. Approx. 138cm tall.Provenance: Acquired in Hong Kong in the 1990s. From a private local Bath collection until now.
Condition
Areas of wood decay around the base of the figure with another visible under the arm. Traces of colour left more visible to the rear of the figure. Loss of left foot. With areas of cracking to note.
