No. 5 of 30 Artist‘s Proofs.Inscribed by Nona Hatay to San Francisco artist Sir Lawrence on title leaf. 9 of the 10 photomontages are signed in gold ink by Nona Hatay. Laid in is an inscribed copy of a 1990 press release for Hatay‘s exhibit at the Hendrix Festival in Paris. According to the press release, “PhotoArtist Nona Hatay has done one of the most extensive and involved visual interpretations of the Hendrix sound and philosophy. On assignment as a newspaper photographer in 1969, Hatay shot a series of photos at New York City‘s Madison Square Garden (May 18). The static quality of the still photographs didn‘t satisfy her for long. In 1975, inspired by Hendrix‘s intensity and complexity, Hatay began experimenting with the concert negatives—multiprinting and solarizing-stretching the limits of photography in much the same way as Hendrix broke through the boundries [sic] of rock and blues.“
