Item Details
Description
This beautiful 19” x 16” Antique William Ridgway Grecian Blue Large Platter from Staffordshire England is in very good to excellent condition for it age. A little history:
Manufacturer: William Ridgway (& Co.)
Manufacturer Date Range: 1830 - 1854
Manufacturer Location: Hanley, Staffordshire
Ridgway pottery has been made in the Staffordshire district in England since 1808 by a series of companies with the name Ridgway. The transfer-design dinner sets are the most widely known product. Ridgway became part of Royal Doulton in the 1960s.
Notes: Grecian Blue: Central scenes differ - border and well patterns remain the same. Edges of plates and other tableware are usually scalloped. This platter has only one chip on the bottom none around the edges and no crazing, utensil marks etc. on the surface. Does have what appears to be a professional fill in on the bottom edge (see photo) but the surface is same glaze as the rest of the platter and the surface above is shows no damage at all (see photo). I believe it to be an error during the coloring process. This is a large platter with a gravy well and will hold the largest bird. This will become a treasured heirloom to be handed down generation to generation.; This beautiful 19” x 16” Antique William Ridgway Grecian Blue Large Platter from Staffordshire England is in very good to excellent condition for it age.
