Description
A Pair of Fabergé Translucent Blue Guilloché Enameled Two-Color Gold Opera Glasses Fabergé, Workmaster Henrik Wigström, St. Petersburg, circa 1908, with scratched inventory number 16092 1 x 3-1/2 x 1-1/4 inches (2.5 x 8.9 x 3.2 cm) 118 grams (gross) Opera glasses and binoculars by the house of Fabergé are relatively rare, and there are only a few known examples. The Russian archives record another pair decorated in pink enamel with white rims and gold overlays which were purchased in London for 49 pounds 5 shillings in 1908. The numerically proximate inventory number to the offered lot suggests they were made around the same time. Another famous example set with diamonds over opalescent salmon pink enamel were made for Empress Alexandra and were formerly in the Forbes Collection, and now in the Link of Times Collection, the Fabergé Museum, St. Petersburg.
