Description
An oil painting on canvas by Audrey Skaling, titled Birds and Head, 1960s. The painting has a surreal theme and depicts a huge monkeys head on the rocks. Conventionally drawn birds fly overhead, red on the left, and blue on the right. On the stones next to the head there are birds sitting, depicted realistically. Signed by the artist on the backside. Audrey Skaling, 1912 to 2009, American artist. In her earlier work, Skaling often eschewed perspective, and with the forms of her subject becoming fluid surfaces set in a plane. Her works are in museums and private collections in Athens, Rio de Janeiro, Geneva, and New York City. Many of Skalings works exhibition announcements, press releases, and magazine clippings can be viewed from the Ruth White Gallery records on the Smithsonian Institution website.
