East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. A mold-formed pottery rooster meant covered in thick remains of white pigment. The rooster's symbolism and importance in Han Dynasty China were deeply rooted in cultural beliefs and societal practices.
