Description
Johann Kaendler (German, 18th C.) for Meissen (German) Porcelain Figural Grouping, Allegory of Earth, Ca. 1860, H 6" W 6" Depth 4.25" | Depicting a recumbent mother with fruit cornucopia adjacent to a globe and two cherubs with a chicken and shovel. Modeled by Johann Joachim Kaendler (German, 1706-1775). with '832' and 85' incised to the underside with cobalt Meissen mark under glaze. Circa 1860. Provenance: Property inherited by descent, Harrisville, Michigan.
Condition
As-is condition. When viewed under UV light, the mother's thumb and cherub with yellow sash's hands fluoresce with losses and conservation. The grassy area underneath the cherub with yellow sash fluoresces with inpainting and conservation. A small spot on the chicken's head fluoresces with inpainting. The tree has significant losses and fluoresces with inpainting and conservation.
