Jess Blackstone (1909-1988) - Concord, NH c.1950 -2.5" tall - Perhaps one of New Englands most ornithologically correct miniaturists, Jess created vibrant and beautiful miniature birds. An ornithologist at heart with methodical record keeping, he got his start with his father Arthur and for a while carved with him. Swathes of his carving and ornithology notes are held at the New Hampshire Historical Society in Concord, NH. - True to style this kinglet bears accurate form, vibrant paint, and a rasped surface to provide texture. The wooden base is carved and painted in the way of a weathered rock with the birds feet painted on. #235 indicates this was the 235 Kinglet that he had produced. And it would have cost the original buyer $5.95 to purchase. - Condition: Original with a reglued chip to the bill tip and a small mark on the top right of the head.
