Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An adorable pottery incensario lid in the form of an abstract zoomorph resembling an armadillo. Standing atop a quartet of nubbin legs, the animal presents a perky tail, a raised head, and a rounded back surmounted by a tubular handle in the form of a more petite zoomorph with large ears and a projecting snout. Liberal remains of horizontal linear, zigzag, and spiral striations in black and white pigments adorn the back, which is flanked by a serrated fringe panel lining the lateral portions of the abdomen. Size: 7.1" L x 6.3" W x 6.4" H (18 cm x 16 cm x 16.3 cm)
