**Post-WWI Winchester Model 1897 Trench Configuration Gun
World War I
12 Gauge. 20.375" barrel length. SN: E682721. 2.75" chamber length. Cylinder choke. Blued metal finish overall set in a walnut semi-pistol grip stock with corncob forend and combination four-row perforated heat shield and bayonet lug. Slide action solid frame repeating shotgun fed by an internal tube magazine and mounting a front bead sight in addition to sling swivels on the toe and bayonet lug. The action bar shows the model marking MODEL 1897/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK REG. IN U.S. PAT. OFF. with Winchester monogram proof marking on the top of the barrel and upper left cylinder. Address marking to barrel includes patent dates up to 1910 followed by the 12 GA. caliber marking. Left side of the bayonet lug is marked PAT. JAN. 15 & MAR. 19. 1918. Serial number falls outside of the range for World War I and World War II trench guns, and the firearm displays no martial markings of any kind. Comes with a pattern of 1907 sling.

Condition
Fair to Good. Bore is Frosty with some dust and residue throughout, and light pitting near the muzzle. Blued metal refinish is thinning on the edges with scattered brown flecking overall, rust forming to the indentations on the heat shield, and some pitting over the triggerguard and receiver. Stock shows some dark residue from wood fill in a seam at the wrist and on the forend, along with scattered light dents. Sling shows some cracking, scuffs, and abrasions overall.
