Giuseppe Napoli (American, 1929-1967), A Collection of Drawings and Sketches
(9) works including: a graphite and colored pencil sketch of a nude woman, signed at lower left and dated 1966 at lower right (12 x 9 in.); (3) mixed media abstract compositions on book pages, each signed, one dated 1958 (the first with tears to lower left corner of sheet, the second with hole in upper right corner, and the third in good estate condition); (2) mixed media on paper drawings of a human head, both signed, one dated 1958 and the second dated 1958-59; and (3) mixed media abstract compositions on wove paper, each signed, one dated 1958. All unframed.
The largest measures 12 x 9 in.
Giuseppe Napoli was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Both of his parents were born in Italy and immigrated to the United States in 1923. Giuseppe remained in New York for his entire life.
Giuseppe maintained a small studio in Greenwich Village during the 1950s and 1960s. He is most closely associated with the New York School. Sadly, his life was cut short when he died of suicide in 1967.
