AN IRON RED-ENAMELLED 'RED ROVER' PART SERVICE
19th century
Comprising six deep dishes and four flat dishes each enamelled in iron red with a central floral roundel within a band inscribed RED ROVER, diaper patterns to the rim.
25.5cm (10in) diam. (10).
Footnotes:
十九世紀 礬紅彩餐具
The inscription 'Red Rover' refers to the opium clipper of the same name launched 12 December 1829 and capable of transporting the East India Company's opium to China three times a year. It was extremely rare for a ship to commission its own service and is testament to the position that the vessel held within the East India Company at the time.
