Description
Autograph letter signed as President. [New York:] 10 August 1789. A short one page autograph note signed "Go:Washington", the note regarding a meeting time, small numeral "107" in another hand to top right. 5 5/8 x 7 5/8 inches (14.5 c 19.5 cm); framed with an engraving. The sheet tipped at corners to a backing sheet, likely trimmed and washed, repaired tears into text.
This letter, written in the first six months of George Washington's presidency and likely relating to a meeting with a Senate Committee, is not published in the Founders.archive.gov catalogue. Washington here writes "If it is convenient to the Com.ee I shall be glad to meet them at six o'clock this afternoon. If tomorrow at half after ten AM would be moreso to them, they have only to signify it to their/Most obedt & Hmb Serv/G:Washington."
