About the artist: Ukrainian painter. Honored Art Worker of the Ukrainian SSR.
Pyotr Stepanovich Sulimenko was born on July 16 (July 29, new style) 1914 in Yekaterinodar (now Krasnodar).
After graduating from high school, he studied at the factory school of river transport, specializing in steering.
The love of drawing won, and Pyotr Sulimenko entered the Krasnodar Art School in 1932.
In 1935 he continued his studies at the Rostov Art School, which he graduated in 1936.
Since 1939 - student of the Kiev State Art Institute.
During the Great Patriotic War, he continued his studies in evacuation at the Ukrainian branch of the United Art Institute of the All-Russian Academy of Arts - first in Samarkand, then in Zagorsk near Moscow.
The artist's teachers were A.A. Shovkunenko, K.N. Eleva, A.I. Sirotenko, A.I. Fomin, S.N. Erzhikovsky.
In 1947, P.S. Sulimenko writes his thesis "Immortal feat of Sevastopol residents", which is exhibited at the Exhibition of diploma works of students of the Kiev Art Institute.
In the same year he joined the Union of Artists of the USSR.
The husband of the artist Zatsepina Zinaida Ilinichna (1913 - 1986).
Participant of art exhibitions: republican since 1946, all-Union - since 1947, foreign - since 1950.
He worked in the field of easel painting. Outstanding marine painter, author of battle paintings.
Master of portrait and landscape.
A special place in the work of P.S. Sulimenko is occupied with works created by the artist during his creative trips to Egypt, Singapore, Vietnam, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Guinea and other countries in Africa, Asia and Europe.
In 1960 he was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor, and in 1970 - the medal For Valorous Labor.
Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR since 1974.
The artist's personal exhibitions were held in 1957 in Moscow and Kiev, in 1978 in Krasnodar, in 1989 in Kiev.
The works of Petr Stepanovich Sulimenko are presented in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, the Sevastopol Art Museum, in numerous museum, gallery and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
