'In her wide range of drawings, Linda Haukaas recovers the history and represents the contemporary lives of Lakota Sicangu women and girls. Some of her most powerful drawings are manly hearted women and strong women, who sometimes became warriors. But equally important are those of women who played the traditional roles of mothers, wives, and sisters - who were responsible for nurturing life, maintaining basic traditions, and preserving the flexibility that has enabled them to remain vital. Indeed, due to the sensuality of her colors, rhythms, details, and sometimes subject matter, her drawings are a celebration of tribal relationships and life.' Ibid, p.51.

Each in good condition overall. The paper with toning, scattered spots of foxing, handling creases, and yellowing to edges commensurate with age. 'Sicangu Lakota Courtship' with an appriximatly 2in x 1in triangular area of water damage in the upper right corner, and a 1in x 1/2in area in the lower right corner. Scattered small tears and creases along the edge of the paper.
