**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Central America, El Salvador, Maya, Copador, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A splendid pottery cylinder vessel intricately hand-painted with imagery of 2 flying or swimming figures beneath a band of glyph-like zoomorphic heads, possibly birds. Due to their elaborate feathered headdresses, the flying or swimming figures may be intended as Maya lords or as the Maya Hero Twins. Remains of stucco decoration is visible on the underside of the base. A cylindrical vase with similar decoration and glyphs was found in Joya de Ceren, an archaeological site in El Salvador featuring a Maya farming village often referred to as the "Pompeii of the Americas." Size: 5.2" L x 4.9" W x 6.5" H (13.2 cm x 12.4 cm x 16.5 cm)
Provenance: private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, USA, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000

Condition
Professionally repaired and restored with areas of repainting; all done very well and difficult to notice. Some light surface wear, but otherwise has excellent presentation with nice imagery and pigments. Mineral deposits to surface. Remains of stucco decoration and old collection label on underside of base.
