Dr. Robert Plot (England, 1640-1696) was an Oxford University-educated professor, and the Keeper of the Ashmolean Museum. The Natural History of Oxford-Shire was first published in 1677, followed by a re-issue the same year, and then the second edition in 1705. It discusses the earth, stones, plants, animals (which he called brutes), and more, in that community.
