Description
This antique map, created by Abraham Ortelius in 1592, offers a glimpse into ancient Tuscany during Etruscan times. Featured in "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum," the world's first true modern atlas, published in Antwerp, this map is part of the Parergon edition crafted by Ortelius himself. Decorated with three beautiful strapwork cartouches, the map also showcases a west-bound galley, marking the last year for this orientation of the map. Future editions would feature an east-bound galley, adding to the historical significance of this particular version. Hand-colored and copperplate engraved, this map measures 19 1/4" x 13" and is presented in overall good condition, with minor repairs on the verso. Latin text accompanies the map on the verso, enriching its historical context.
