Description
A poet, novelist, playwright and orator, he was one of the greatest figures of French Romanticism. He entered the diplomatic service in 1821, resigned on the accession of Louis-Philippe, then travelled to the Orient. He was deputy for Bergues (Nord) in 1833, then general councillor in M‰con, and finally Minister of Foreign Affairs until 1848.
