Description
He distinguished himself at the siege of Toulon in 1793. Appointed General, he led the first Italian campaign. On his return from Egypt, he carried out the coup d'Žtat of 18 Brumaire, which established the Consulate. In 1800 it was the second Italian campaign. On 2 December 1804 he was crowned Emperor. Then came setbacks: Spain, Russia and Russia. In 1814, he abdicated and retired to the island of Elba. A year later, he marched on Paris, but was defeated at Waterloo and exiled to Saint Helena. Letter signed "Bonaparte" (text in Bourienne's hand) to the commander of the place of Cairo (Jacques-ZacharieÊDestaing), 19 Brumaire An VII (09.11.1798): "Je vous prie, Citoyen GŽnŽral, de faire mettre en libertŽ le citoyen MartinÓ.
