Description
Vivian Maier (American, 1926-2009) Protests and Street Scenes (14 works), 1968 35 mm color transparencies From the Ron Slattery collection This lot, featuring imagery taken at anti-Vietnam War protests 1968, shows Maier's fearlessness as a photographer, and engagement with the world around her. One image in particular, that shows a multi-generational, interracial line of protesters walking with locked arms, suggests the presence of the police who oppose their presence nearby. Another image, that shows a puppet of a police officer with a porcine face being carried as a prop also suggests the tenor of the moment. The discarded "Make Love Not War" sign Maier shoots captures a sense of uncertainty that she perhaps felt regarding the potential of the protests. No prints are included with the lot.
