Description

Meggendorfer, Lothar. SCHAU MICH AN! Esslingen and Munich: Schreiber, n.d. [ca. 1888.] Oblong, 13.75" x 10". Cloth-backed hardcovers with pictorial label to front. Featuring 8 color plates with moveable parts which are operated by tabs, with accompanying text. ************ German cartoonist Lothar Meggendorfer is best remembered for his pop-up books. He was a student of puppeteer Joseph Schmid, and the influence of puppetry would later be seen in his movable books. The first book he produced with movable illustrations was done as a Christmas gift for his son, Adolph. The present book is offered in its original German, though Meggendorfer's books would be translated and offered in various languages.

Condition

Text-block is separated from covers though intact. One illustration with tab not fully functioning and leaf opened in order to see the mechanism (appears all parts there, one attempt at a tape repair to one component, surely could be fixed/restored to function), some mild age-toning and a few short tears, overall Good-.
