Description
Abraham Lincoln interest. Hardin County, KY. Five early 19th century documents, including four in manuscript and one partially printed document completed in manuscript. ************A fascinating archive with interesting connections to Abraham Lincoln's early years. Lincoln was born in Hardin County, KY, and two of these documents were produced in Hardin County in the year of Lincoln's birth. An 1802 document is signed by James Haycraft, who was later a historian of KY and Lincoln's correspondent; the same document is also signed by William Bush, who was Lincoln's uncle. Another pair of documents relate to the tribulations of Lincoln's father, Thomas Lincoln who, along with David Vance and Isaac Bush, lost their homes to Richard Mather (a land speculator) who reclaimed the land from Lincoln, Vance, and Bush owing to a lien on the land. One document signed by Richard Mather. Another document is a very early Kentucky printing signed by David Vance.
