Antique Late 18th Century Mens Frock Coat. This incredible late 18th century mens brown silk frock coat features a staggering amount of embellishment including bountiful embroidered floral sprays, French knot geometric borders, faceted marquise shaped mirrored gems, mirrored spangles, and tiny silver spangles. As well as classic late 18th century details such as high back slit, covered pockets, a stand up collar, narrow shoulders, cuffed sleeves, and a 2 button closure. The brown silk background fabric has a honeycomb like pattern to it and is backed by a butter yellow fine cotton. The measurements are as follows: shoulders 16'', chest 17.5'', sleeves 24'', length 42.5''. There are several conservation efforts carried out throughout the piece including brown sheer overlay on both sleeves , and stitching to anchor some of the shattered silk near the stomach area. The piece is in fair condition for its age with general fraying and shattering to the silk, losses to the mirrored and metallic spangles, spots, stains. If you have any doubt, please ask questions!
