Cacipore Torres (Born 1935) Serigraph on paper, signed lower right, Left signed P.A, Artist proof, dated 2000 and measures 19 x 11.8 inches (50 x 30 cm) not including custom frame and archival glass. Artist was born in 1935 in Araçatuba, and lives and works in São Paulo. Sculptor, designer and teacher, he traveled to Europe thanks to a scholarship that he received from the 1st International Biennial of São Paulo, in 1951, and for two years attended the sculpture workshops of Marino Marini and Alexander Calder. In 1954 he studied History of Art at the Sorbonne, Paris, and worked in studio for 4 years, during which he created abstract works. He later started to build organic and geometric massive forms, using metal parts apparently industrial, such as steel, bronze and iron. Many of these sculptures are made in large size and are held in museums and public spaces in several cities, such as the work on the Cathedral Square, the Santa Cecilia subway and sculptural panel in Miami. Between 1961 and 1971 he taught sculpture at the Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation (FAAP), from 1971 at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the Mackenzie Presbyterian University, both in São Paulo. In 1970 he was elected President of the International Association of Plastic Arts / UNESCO and in 1980 and 1982 best Brazilian sculptor by the São Paulo Association of Art Critics (APCA)
