Offered here for your consideration is the actual original Michael Chiago artwork that was used for the 1987 O'Odham Tash event. The artist and illustrator, Michael Chiago, was born in the Kohatk Village on the Tohono O’odham reservation in Arizona. Many of Chiago’s artworks provide a glimpse into the traditions of the O’odham, based on his recollections of growing up on the reservation,and stories told by tribal elders. In this artwork, chosen for the 1987 O'odham Tash posters and program covers, he depicts a celebration as the people gather to socialize, dance, eat and enjoy company. Dressed in their colorful best the participants are shown dancing and conversing, while in the background people standing in front of the church and the trading post observe the festivities, and further in the background the residences appear.
