Description

FRENCH NAPOLEON III-STYLE PORTICO SHELF CLOCK, ebonized wood with gilt bronze mounting, the pediment supported on four columns with ormolu capitals and bases, fitted with a brass time-and-strike movement, ormolu dial with Roman numerals engraved into its surface, original pendulum ornamented with a classical bearded man and swans. Lacking key and bell. French. Fourth quarter 19th century. 19 1/2" HOA, 10 1/4" WOA, 6" DOA.

Provenance:

Deaccessioned by the Valentine Museum, Richmond, VA to benefit collections care, preservation, and future acquisitions.

Condition

Good condition overall with minor assorted finish wear to wooden elements, some minimal discoloration to bronze; bend to arm which held bell. Untested and in unknown working condition (see Catalogue Guarantee).
