Wood and Pigment Kurumba Headdress, Burkina Faso/Mali. This piece represents an antelope with a long neck, protruding snout, and long horns extending upward with short vertical ears. The bottom of the mask features square cutouts for eyes, though the opening is too small to fit over a head. Measures approximately 69" x 8 1/2" x 28". In good condition commensurate with age and use, including minor cracks and erosion in the surface. This item originates from the estate of John A. Williams, a distinguished philanthropist and renowned collector. Mr. Williams and his partner Dewitt Hart were influential members of San Francisco's art society and were celebrated for their discerning taste in modern, ethnographic, and fine art. Over the years, they hosted numerous exhibitions in their home, showcasing their prestigious collection to appreciative audiences. All proceeds of items from this estate benefit the Hart Williams Rainbow Fund, a nonprofit working with the LGBTQIA+ community in the San Francisco Bay Area.
