Description

Aibom Pot (Chambri), Sepik River, Papua New Guinea. Terra Cotta, Kaolin. This is a storage pot featuring a warthog for a face, with a large belly that tapers upwards to the vessel's neck and head. The pot's top portion is decorated with circular and other shapes. Measures approximately 19" x 21" in diameter (8 1/2" diameter at top). In good condition with wear appropriate for age and use. Made for indigenous use. This item originates from the estate of John A. Williams, a distinguished philanthropist and renowned collector. Mr. Williams and his partner Dewitt Hart were influential members of San Francisco's art society and were celebrated for their discerning taste in modern, ethnographic, and fine art. Over the years, they hosted numerous exhibitions in their home, showcasing their prestigious collection to appreciative audiences. All proceeds of items from this estate benefit the Hart Williams Rainbow Fund, a nonprofit working with the LGBTQIA+ community in the San Francisco Bay Area.
