Description
19th C. Wood Carving of Seated Monk. This carving features a monk with the right hand raised, and the border of the robe is inlaid with glass jewels. The figure is painted in red, black, and white, with some areas highlighted in gilt. Measures approximately 20" x 15" x 22". In good condition consistent with age and use. Retains certificate of authenticity from Rama Antiques, Bangkok. This item originates from the estate of John A. Williams, a distinguished philanthropist and renowned collector. Mr. Williams and his partner Dewitt Hart were influential members of San Francisco's art society and were celebrated for their discerning taste in modern, ethnographic, and fine art. Over the years, they hosted numerous exhibitions in their home, showcasing their prestigious collection to appreciative audiences. All proceeds of items from this estate benefit the Hart Williams Rainbow Fund, a nonprofit working with the LGBTQIA+ community in the San Francisco Bay Area.
