Description
MOSER CANINE AND FOLIATE ENAMEL-DECORATED ART GLASS DECANTER, colorless glass, polychrome enamel hand-painted on a Venetian blank blown by Salviati & Co., intricate all-over flowing pale green vine decoration with red-orange, blue, and yellow floral highlights, framing a black and white hound/canine featured at center on each side and having a small script "M" in gilt integrated into the pattern, likely a signature, plus additional gilt lining around mouth of bottle, and rough pontil scar to base. Blown in Murano, Italy and decorated in Czechoslovakia by Moser. Circa 1900. 9 3/8" H.
Literature: Parallels Baldwin - Moser Artistic Glass: Edition Two, p. 120, pl. 115, with text on p. 72 and 164.
Catalogue Note: Pattern pictured by Baldwin where it is explained that this line of early Moser-decorated tableware was based on a centuries-old Iberian motif. Stemware is relatively plentiful in this pattern but not many decanters seem to have survived.
Condition
Virtually undamaged, with minimal exterior wear and slight losses to gilding around mouth, but having some interior white mineral stain/residue.
