Item Details
Description

An antique Japanese, late Meiji era, covered enamel over copper kogo or box for incense. The box is made in the shape of a sea shell. The body of the box is enameled with a polychrome design depicting blossoming flowers surrounded by a foliate scroll motif made in the Cloisonne technique. The borders and the base are adorned with a circular pattern on the turquoise ground made in the same technique. Circa: late 19th century to the early 20th century. A kogo is used for holding incense and historically most often at the tea ceremony, the temple, or for the small worship area in the home. The kogo is also a wonderful item of character to decorate with, in addition to placing small items in, and around the house or office. Antique and Vintage Asian and Oriental Enamel Boxes and Cases, Table Wares, Home Decor, Interior Design, and Collectibles.

Dimensions: 2 3/4 x 2 7/8 in. All measurements are approximate.
