Description
An antique Japanese box from the Meiji period decorated with enamel using the cloisonne technique. Of a rectangular form with slightly rounded corners, the hinged lid depicts a hen and a rooster on a turquoise ground. This motif is often found on items from the Meiji period, bearing the symbolism of good wishes popular in Japan. The sides of the box are decorated with butterflies and flowers on a deep dark background. The interior of the box is also covered with bright turquoise enamel. Collectible Oriental Items And Decor.
