Collection of "yard long" photographs of the New York Cavalry while serving on the Mexican Border in 1916. Collection includes three framed units including; 1.) Frame containing two photographs including top photograph measuring 4.5" x 25.5" (sight) showing camp scene with troops and tents and titled in negative "McAllen Texas, Aug 28, 1916, First Cav. Camp NGNY, Photo by Murff" and bottom photograph measuring 4.5" x 34.5" (sight) showing camp scene with troops and tents and titled in negative "First NY Cavalry NGUS, McAllen Tex. Oct 5, 1916, Photo by Murff & Robertson". Between photograph is a ink calligraphed title "First New York Cavalry, McAllen, Texas". Frame measures 21" x 43.5". Images exhibit some water damage at right in both with some slight degradation 2.) Photograph measuring 5.75" x 42.5" (sight) showing a group of 42 soldiers standing wearing uniforms, campaign hats and holding rifles. Image housed in frame measuring 11.5" x 49" and exhibits some water damage and fading to right side of image. 3.) Frame containing two photographs including top photograph measuring 5" x 29.5" (sight) showing cavalry troopers on horseback and titled in negative "First NY Cav. NG McAllen, Texas Nov 10, 1916, Photo by Murff & Robertson" and bottom photograph measuring 5" x 37" (sight) showing horse area of the camp and titled in negative "First Cavalry NYNG, McAllen Texas, Oct 5, 1916, Photo by Murff & Robertson". Frame measures 17" x 43". Images exhibit some water damage at right in both images. The 1st New York Cavalry was stationed in Texas in 1916 as part of an expedition against Pancho Villa. A famous member of the unit was William "Wild Bill" Donovan (1883-1959) American soldier, intelligence officer and diplomat. and regarded as the founding father of the CIA.
