History: The Katowice Railway Directorate was dissolved in 1922. The Reichsbahndirektion Oppeln was re-established for the routes previously managed by it that had remained in Germany. Its first president was Julius Dorpmüller, who later became director general of the Reichsbahn and Reich Minister of Transport . At the same time, the Polish State Railways founded their own railway headquarters in Katowice. To handle the remaining affairs of the dissolved German EBD Katowice, a "main settlement office" was established at the Reichsbahndirektion Oppeln, which maintained a branch office in Katowice and worked organizationally like a department of the Oppeln Directorate. In 1939, after the invasion of Poland, the area of ????directorate was enlarged by Polish lines. The area covered by this division included the Bavarian provinces of Middle and Lower Franconia (including the territory of the former Reichsbahndirektion of Würzburg) as well as the fringes of Upper Palatinate and Bavarian Swabia.
