A fine group of three S.P.s of American aces, includes: MARION E. CARL (1915-1998) World War II fighter ace, record-setting test pilot, and naval aviator. During World War II, he became the first-ever Marine Corps ace. He fought at Midway and Guadalcanal, and served through the Vietnam War only to be killed by a home intruder. S.P. 8 x 10 in. b/w, a reprint of a vintage image showing Carl in the cockpit, boldly signed at left. WITH: ROBERT LEE SCOTT (1908-2006) World War II fighter ace who flew with the Flying Tigers and is credited with 13 ‘kills’. S.P. 10 x 8 in. b/w, a reprint of a vintage shot of Scott in his aircraft, boldly signed. WITH: JOSEPH FOSS (1915-2003) Leading fighter ace of the Marine Corps during World War II and a recipient of the Medal of Honor. S.P. 11 x 8 in. color, an artist’s illustration of Foss in the cockpit, cigar clenched in his mouth. Boldly signed across middle adding ‘VMA-121 USMCR’. Three pieces.
