Description
(1921 - 2019) German Waffen-SS officer and Knights Cross recipient, son of Foreign Minister Joachim von Ribbentrop. He was a member of the LSSAH. Fascinating, very early signed book: 'Batterie Glahn' by Hubery E. Gilbert (Stuttgart: Frank'sche Verlagshandlung), ca. 1930. 160pp. 8vo., in illustrated cloth covers bearing some soiling an a few toned spots. Ribbentrop has boldly inscribed the front flyleaf (in German): 'The London Hitler Youth Rudolf Ribbentrop Oktober 36 - July 37'. Beneath his signature appears what was presumably his personal purple stamp: 'The State Youth Leader England' and a handwritten: 'L33'. Very good. The younger Ribbentrop was only 23 when his father was named Minister to England in October, 1936. He spent a year at the prestigious Westminster School before the press became aware of his presence there and he was obliged to return to Germany. As for the stamp - there certainly was no Hitler Youth branch in England in 1936-37. Could Ribbentrop - or someone in the Nazi administration - have created this stamp for his use to sway young British men politically? Certainly worthy of study.
