Description
(1901 - 1970) SS-Gruppenfuhrer and Major General of Police. His Selbstschutz paramilitary forces, formed by members of the German minority in Poland and led by SS officials, performed mass executions during the 'Intelligenzaktion Pommern' in the 'Fordon Valley of Death', the Massacres in Piasnica, and other atrocities. He rose through the ranks of the SS while posted in Poland and Russia, and was also appointed a major general. During the entire period, he continued to order mass murders. Alvensleben escaped with his family to Argentina in 1946 and German attempts to have him extradited failed. Very rare, war-date signature as commander of the SS-Standarte 46, executed on a small slip taken from a document and loosely mounted at bottom of a printed portrait measuring 8.5 x 11 in. Fine. During this command, Alvensleben was harshly reprimanded by Reichsfuhrer-SS Heinrich Himmler after he insulted a woman in Leipzig just days after his appointment.
