Description
(1885 – 1966) German general who commanded several corps, most notably the VIII Armeekorps. He was a recipient of the Knight's Cross. Forster retired from active duty in January 1944. He was arrested by the Soviet authorities following the war and convicted as a war criminal in the Soviet Union, and was held until 1955. War-date typed D.S. in pencil, 1p. 4to., [n.p.], Oct. 31, 1941, concerning the award of Iron Crosses and general staff issues. In part: '...2nd and 3rd general staff officers of the command authorities, who, as assistants to the leader - especially in the eastern campaign - have to do and be responsible for considerably more than the z.1. Officers in the Art. Kdeuren. who are only temporarily in the position of leading larger Art. units. The Gen. Kdo. believes that he can also see confirmation of his opinion in the fact that the Officers...are staffed with young officers who first aspire to general staff training, while the positions of 2nd and 3rd general staff officers at the command authorities are held by general staff officers or officers who have already successfully completed their general staff training....' File holes at left margin, docketed, very good.
