About the artist: Yuri Andreyevich Kovalenko was born on July 27, 1931 in the city of Priluki, Chernihiv region. In 1959 he graduated from the Odessa Art College. M. B. Grekova. From 1960 he worked as a make-up artist at the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater, from 1961 to 1965 - a make-up artist at the Odessa Music and Drama Theater. In 1965, Kovalenko entered the Leningrad Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography. He teaches at the Odessa Art College from 1971 to 1981. Yuri Kovalenko had a huge impact on the development of the Odessa school of painting. The art world that he created attracts with the ability to convey the deepest national features. In the artist’s work, folklore motifs are intertwined with elements of the theater, giving rise to a peculiar and original style. Participates in art exhibitions since 1968. The first solo exhibition of Yuri Kovalenko was held in the lobby of the Rodina cinema in 1977.
Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine since 1988.
