Illinois Watch Co., Springfield, Illinois, a late 19th century "Sangamo" pocket watch with box hinge case, 16 size, 23 jewels, stem wind and lever set, adjusted to 6 positions, temperature and isochronism, two tone damascened nickel plate movement with lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance with gold screws, gold jewel settings, gold wheel train, and whiplash micrometric regulator in a 14 karat, yellow gold, engraved box hinge hunting case with engraved cipher on front cover, arabic numeral, outer red 5-minute markers, single sunk white enamel dial with plum colored steel whip and spade hands, serial #1418384, 132.9g TW
Condition
CASE: Case has housed another movement; Shallow dent, band; Very fine scratches on outer surface of case; Very fine scratches on cuvette; Engraving with moderate wear; Front cover lift spring opening cover to 45 deg.; Acrylic crystal; Bow replaced; Crown shell worn through; Precious metal content tested. DIAL: A few hairlines. HANDS: Minor losses to color. MOVEMENT PLATES: Scattered spotting; Very fine scratches on plate; Significant scratches on train bridge and on barrel bridge at case screw; Ratchet wheel with spots of oxide; Regulator assembly with specks of oxide; Center wheel with concentric scratches and marring; One case screw an incorrect replacement. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets and ticks), circa 1900
