Elgin National Watch Co., Elgin, Illinois, a late 19th century grade 83 pocket watch with sweep seconds, 16 size, 16 jewels, stem wind and lever set gilt plate movement with lever escapement and cut bimetallic balance in a 14 karat, yellow gold, engraved, box hinge hunting case with owners name engraved on front cover and presentation on gold cuvette, roman numeral, outer black 5-minute markers and 1/5 second divisions, white enamel dial with plum colored steel hands, serial #898093, 122.2g TW
Condition
CASE: Case has housed another movement; Back with two tiny, shallow dents; Very fine scratches on outer surface of case; Very fine scratches on inner surface of case and on cuvette; Fine scratches on bottom of hinge; Front cover with very small gap at band, right side, when closed; Bow replaced; Crown shell just starting to wear through; Precious metal content marked. DIAL: Scratch at edge, 5:00. HANDS: Minute an incorrect replacement. MOVEMENT PLATES: Very fine scratches on plate; Gilding with minor wear and loss; Barrel with tarnish; Sweep seconds drive wheel with minor marring; Regulator with scattered specks of oxide; One bridge screw and one case screw replaced. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets and ticks), circa 1880
