Chinese Ming Dynasty Buddha Weituo Bronze Statue. Skanda also known as Wei Tuo is a Mahayana bodhisattva regarded as a devoted guardian of Buddhist monasteries who protects the teachings of Buddhism, whose statue we can usually find next to Sakyamuni Buddha or beside Maitreya Bodhisattva. This Bodhisattva is depicted in full Armor and his hand holding a demon-conquering mace, with a handsome face and wearing the uniform of the god of war while holding a kind of sword with bars and wearing a divine scarf. Wei Tuo is often shown as a door angel guarding Buddhist monasteries or temples, side by side with Chie Lan Bodhisattva Sangha Arama who has a black face and beard, holding an axe. Sometimes Wei Tuo is also worshiped separately. He is also sometimes called in the Chinese tradition HuFan Weituo Suntan Pusan, meaning Honoured Dharma Protector Skanda Bodhisattva, because he is one of the twenty-four celestial guardian deities mentioned in the Golden Light Sutra.Made in The Years Reign Period of The Great Ming Dynasty.
