Chippendale Cherry Birdcage Tea Table, attributed to Amzi Chapin (1768-1835), Connecticut River Valley, c. 1785. The large multi-board circular top with chamfered edge is screwed to two narrow cleats hinged on a birdcage mechanism with four turned balusters through-tenoned to maple blocks, which are drilled to receive the jointed top of a trumpet-form pillar, turned from a pieced billet, raised on three blind-dovetailed cabriole legs terminating in splayed and knuckled compressed ball-and-claw feet, 78cm wide, 78cm deep, 68cm high (31in wide, 31in deep, 27 1/2in high).
