Fine William IV Brass-inlaid Rosewood Lap Desk, England, c. 1830. Miter-joined rosewood and rosewood veneer chest with inlaid brass strapwork decoration, the lid with central Boulle cartouche opens to form canted desk surface with leather-surfaced panels hinged over separate conforming wells, below a tier of compartments containing a pen tray and two custom glass ink bottles, the interior wall having catch-release false panel covering three secret drawers, and the bottom of case containing full-length document drawer with flush-mounted handle matching that on the opposite side of case, (open) wd. 19 7/8, dp. 21 5/8, ht. 6 in.
