A WILLIAM IV MOTHER OF PEARL INLAID ROSEWOOD VENEERED WRITING BOX / LAP DESK, CIRCA 1830-1837, of rectangular form with rounded corners, the top with mother-of-pearl stringing with circular "buttons" at the corners and centers along the edge containing border of stinging and buttons anchored by foliate scroll corners, centering inlaid swan with stylized foliate border, the front with matching outer border with inlaid foliate band, flanked by inset brass campaign style handles, and the bottom with green felt covering, opening to a writing slope with gilt tooled red leather surface, the upper section fitted with pen tray retaining original curved inset plus three open cubby holes, fitted with brass lock and latch stamped 'WR" under crown, poplar secondary wood. Height: 4 3/4" Width: 14" Depth: 9 5/8"

The top warped and not fitting squarely within the frame, with cracked veneer, and an area of loss along the left edge and lower left corner, the inner top borders with loss of mother-of-pearl stringing, the front border, and the lock escutcheon, leather writing surface replaced, hinge and lock screws replaced.
