Federal Satinwood-inlaid Mahogany Card Table, Boston or North Shore, Massachusetts, c. 1795. The leaves with elliptical front flanked by square corners continuing to ogee returns that form serpentine sides when open on supporting fly leg, a continuous checkered band inlaid around the edge, the bottom leaf fixed with pocket screws to conforming apron, whose exterior walls are mahogany-veneered and inlaid with notched string borders, satinwood panels in tops of tapered legs, and a raised cross-banded plaque at center of the bowed front rail, which is horizontally laminated, the ogee returns being carved from solid blocks, all four legs with string-inlaid edges above checkered cuffs, the fronts of two forelegs featuring single inlaid bellflower inside cusped string border, closed, 91cm wide, 43cm deep, 73cm high (36in wide, 17 1/2in deep, 29in high).
