There appears to be some light rubbing to the right framing edge.
Craquelure and separation are visible throughout the composition, however this all appears stable.
There are a few white pigment surface marks running vertically down the centre right of the composition and on the sails of the left ship. Some of these marks have resulted in a tiny amount of paint loss.
The paint appears somewhat thin in areas of the sea.
There are spots of light surface dirt throughout the canvas.
UV light reveals a thick varnish layer which makes reading difficult. However, there are areas of craquelure throughout which fluoresce and appear to have been infilled. There are also signs of retouching to the left framing edge.
There are a four areas throughout the sky where the paint has discoloured slightly and could be signs of restoration. However, these are not visible when viewed under UV light.
