Pencil drawing on wove paper, removed from a French drawing sketchbook. Abstract composition, unsigned (Blanche Lazzell*, 1878-1956). Dated 1924. 8 3/8 x 6 1/4 inches. Very good condition.

Note: This drawing was removed from an artist's sketchbook inherited by the consignor. Until recently the drawing was contained in the sketchbook; it is in excellent condition and has never been framed.

Provenance: Property originally from a California estate, thence by descent to the consignor. [An index card associated with the sketchbook states that the artist gave it to her friend, Mary Tannahill, while they were in Europe in 1923/24. The note on the index card indicates that the artist "traded" sketchbooks with her friend, Mary Tannahill, each admiring the other's work. The sketchbook was apparently acquired by the consignor's family from one of Mary Tannahill's relatives, although the family member who originally purchased the sketchbook is now deceased so we are unable to verify the source of the purchase.]
