Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) was a Russian painter and art theorist who is credited with pioneering abstract art and laying the groundwork for the development of non-representational painting in the 20th century. Born in Moscow, Kandinsky initially pursued a career in law and economics before turning to art in his thirties.Kandinsky's early works were influenced by Russian folk art, as well as movements such as Fauvism and Symbolism.
